Betty (Ty) Shanahan

“Ty,” as she’s known to all of us, is a retired travel agent from Portal World Travel.  She has been a member of San Francisco Travel Professionals (then called Travellarians) since 1956.

Now in her ‘90’s, she is the senior member of our organization and brings a great deal of history to the board and our membership.  She is particularly remembered for her song and dance performances making fun of all of us in the industry.

Though officially “retired”, she continues her love of travel – her most recent trip being a cruise of the Great Lakes with Blount Small Ship Cruises.  “This is a wonderful trip for seniors,” she says. “The small ships can pull right up on to the islands due to their unique design.  The food was delicious and the other passengers were delightful.”

In addition to her duties for the SFTP Board of Directors, Ty volunteers for Repeat  Performance (a resale shop which supports the San Francisco Symphony) and continues her lifetime education by attending courses from the Fromm Institute.

We’re lucky to have her.
